The Next Generation of Technological MastermindsOn October 13, 2005 Latin-Tech and C-Tech put on a three-hour workshop geared to introduce information technology to all the participating youth of Queens NY. The event was sponsored by Latinos In Information Sciences and Technology Association (LISTA) and was part of one of the La Familia Technology Week events. Together C-Tech’s Director of Marketing David Brady, and Latin-Tech’s Executive Director Rodolfo Herrera created an active awareness of the importance of technology through the instructional use of C-Tech’s Hands-On Communications Pathways Series Program (CPS). Students gained a basic understanding in continuity and configuration, and the use of different mediums used to transmit messages, such as Fiber Optics and Infrared frequencies. They also explored specific topics such as the Gutenburg press and how a telephone works through Internet Investigations located within the confines of C-Tech’s CPS Curriculum.
While the students enjoyed working with the CPS activities, parents learned about the different career opportunities that exist in technology-related fields as well as the importance of continued education. Keynote Speakers included Rod Colon, Founder/CEO of etp Network and Council member Hiram Monserrate (D-21st District-Queens). “Overall the workshop was a total success: it brought parents, students, business professionals and educators together, creating the stimulus for continued growth and exploration in information and technology education.” said Brady.
