High
School Students Compete
On
Saturday, June 4th 12 specially chosen students from Thomas A.
Edison High School, in Jamaica, New York competed in the C-Tech 2005
Connectivity Challenge. They tested the skills learned during the C-Tech
Copper class to complete the five part challenge.

Each
student had to terminate a UTP data cable, then cut it in two to punch down
on the 66 block. The third part consisted of punching down the cable on a
110 connecting block. Each of the cables was tested at each step to make
sure that it was installed correctly according to the 568B configuration.
Once these steps were completed, the students had to connect both the Gray
and Green System on the ACT with DAVETM Training
Aid through the patch panel and connect a digital telephone to the telephone
switch. The final step was to program the telephone to read THOMASED in the
telephone display.
Each
student was timed and graded on every step of the competition and we had
three prizes to distribute. Our first place winner was Janelle Collazo who
won a Deluxe Cable Service Kit sponsored by IDEAL, the second place winner
was Danny Lui who won a Tool Set also sponsored by IDEAL and our third place
winner was Sammy Li who won an Industrial Label Maker sponsored by DYMO.

Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who participated in the
C-Tech 2005 Connectivity Challenge at Thomas A. Edison High School!
