C-Tech and Time Warner

 “Women in Technology”

Ken Lowenstein is responsible for Connecting To Business C-Tech’s initiative for bringing Education and Industry together-and he once again accomplished the mission in New York.  Working closely with the Recruiting Specialist for Time Warner Cable, and several Certified Training Facilities, C-Tech jointly hosted a breakfast and job fair for women holding C-Tech certificates.  Nineteen candidates attended from LaGuardia Community College, Borough of Manhattan Community College, South Bronx Economic Development Organization (SOBRO) and the South Bronx Job Corps Center.

The event was well-received by all.  Here's what William Murphy, Assistant Director of Continuing Education at Borough of Manhattan Community College, had to say: "The event
exposed our students to the challenges an opportunities at one of the largest cable providers in the country, and gave them special insights into the hiring process. All the students were impressed by the presentation, and some were eager to explore career opportunities with Time Warner. We truly look forward to similar career opportunity events that C-Tech sponsors."

Attendees were introduced to and heard presentations by Time Warner Cable Operations staff and a recently hired employee.  Included were such topics as: C-Tech’s Program Recognizer Partnerships, Employee Career Paths and Responsibilities as well as job functions.

The guest speaker was Ms. Ina Jackson, a C-Tech graduate from SOBRO who was hired by TWC three months after earning her certificate and "getting her feet wet" at a cabling company.  Ms. Jackson talked about her job as a tech, and how her C-Tech education had prepared her for this position.  She thanked TWC, SOBRO and C-Tech, and is looking forward to a bright future.

Tina Altaro stated, “I would like to thank you for the opportunity and learning about the work environment at Time Warner Cable.  Everyone at the company definitely has the team spirit and motivation that I would enjoy being a part of.  As for my experience with C-Tech at LaGuardia, I found that this was the most interesting and rewarding course I have taken.  It has broadened my job interest and taught me that I can do anything.  I am fortunate that I was one of the ten women chosen for this program.”

Prospective employee Tracee Myles stated, “I appreciated the information given by the HR Manager and female cable installers.  It was very informative.  It gave me a basic idea of what to expect during the interview as well as on the job site.”

Another attendee, Monique Velluti shared, “I had really enjoyed attending the breakfast.  I think Time Warner Cable is a great company to work for.”
