Fiber Expansion Provides Opportunities
In the past two months, Time
Warner Telecom, a leading provider of managed voice and data networking
solutions for business, has announced two major Fiber Optic expansion
projects for California and Hawaii.
In December, Time Warner announced the expansion
of its more than 800-mile metro fiber network in the Los Angeles Basin into
Pasadena. This expansion will provide Pasadena's central business
district with capabilities on par with those offered to larger metropolitan
areas. They will be able to provide customers with high speed
communications ranging from one megabit to 10 gigabits per second.
On January 19, the company announced it had won
a 3-year contract and successful installation of local dial tone services
for the Sheraton Maui Hotel. Time Warner Telecom will be taking
advantage of its 108-mile undersea fiber network from Oahu and the 60 miles
of fiber already installed on Maui. The company will be making
available its full suite of redundant and reliable services, including
integrated voice and data, dedicated Internet access and metro Ethernet.
These announcements represent just one company's
expansion of Fiber Optics. Skilled technicians will be needed by Time
Warner Telecom as well as many other large, medium and small companies to
perform the installation within the premises of both Copper and Fiber Optics.
Through the C-Tech programs, your students are preparing to take advantage
of these exciting and growing opportunities.
