President Promises Funding for Job Training
This past summer,
President Bush signed the jobs and growth bill that is intended expand the
amount of jobs and to funnel money into job training for to fill those
positions.
“And the bill I signed is
going to be positive for job growth,” states President Bush. “And that's
the whole focus of the legislation, is how do we create the number of jobs
around our country, so people can find work. And if one of those jobs are
created, we must have a system which trains people for the jobs which
actually exist. We invest $15 billion each year on job training and
employment services, which Americans can now access through the more than
1,900 One Stop Career Centers around the country.”
Working with One Stop
Career Centers has been a proven model for a number of C-Tech’s Certified
Training Facilities. With more than 1,900 centers, there is an opportunity
for every CTF to participate and provide job training/re-training.
Another opportunity is to
receive funds through the Department of Labor’s High Growth Job Training
Initiative that is combining federal as well as private funding to provide
the much-needed skills-based training. The administration is currently
working to develop this program by focusing on industries with rapid growth,
like Information Technology. The need for skilled entry-level technicians
will continue to grow, and C-Tech CTFs are in the right position to provide
that training.
The President added, “…unless there is a concerted, focused effort to help our citizens stay
up with technological change, people will be left behind. And that's not
what we want in America. We want an educated work force, to keep this
country the most productive in the world.”
