Behind the Screen: South Bronx Graduates Land Good Jobs with Major Cable Company We've all heard the statistics. Almost every American household owns more than one television set and at least one computer. Most Americans watch at least three hours of television each day. Many children spend more time in front of the television or on the Internet than doing homework or playing outside.
Students like Albert Audain have discovered that solid, rewarding careers are awaiting them as they complete the Network Cabling/Fiber Optics trade [C-Tech certification] and CompTIA A+ Computer Service Technician program offered at the South Bronx academy. While many of us spend hours in front of those electronic screens, Audain and his classmates are devoting hours to intense training behind the scenes, learning about things like coaxial, single and multimode fibers. This knowledge, when combined with hands-on training, certification, a driver's license and a GED/high school diploma, almost guarantees a student a 90-day paid internship with Time Warner Cable. With assistance from the academy's CDSS team, Audain interviewed for and landed one of these internships after completing his training at South Bronx. Audain, a native of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, quickly discovered that he was entering an exciting field with great potential for personal and professional growth. He received additional training during his first few months with Time Warner and was eventually promoted to a permanent position complete with benefits and increased pay.
