Spend Year-End Money Wisely, Plan for Next

Budgets are peculiar animals.  First, we plan for what we want. Then, we are told that all the money is gone, and that we will just have to wait until next time.  And then, "by George," there is money that needs to be spent or we will "lose" it.  This happens just as often in the business world as it does in the education world.

So, what do we do when this happens?  Let me share with you a couple of examples that have occurred in the past couple of years:

  1. A CTF is very excited about C-Tech's latest Fiber Optics program, but they just don't have the money.  All of a sudden about half the money becomes available.  They place a purchase order for the upgrade.  We ship half the order and the other half during the next budget cycle when the rest of the money becomes available.

  2. An instructor learns that he has about $2,300 to spend with end of the year money.  He wants to implement the Fiber Optics program.  The CTF issues a purchase order for two Termination Workstations and a letter of intent to purchase the entire program during the next budget cycle.

  3. A school had end-of-year money to purchase equipment only, and the instructor wanted to upgrade their copper program.  We helped him make that happen.

  4. Another school wanted to upgrade their copper program, but didn't have enough money at the end of the year and wouldn't be receiving enough in the new budget.  However, by combining end-of-year money with next year's allotment, the CTF was able to offer the latest program to its students.

Whether you are looking to:

  1. add a program such as Introduction To Telecommunications in order to create articulation agreements with other local schools

  2. upgrade your Copper and/or Fiber Optics programs to the most current versions, or

  3. update your complete program offering to include Integrated Systems: Voice & Messaging
